On New Year's Eve 1989, a man was found murdered in an apartment in Stockholm, but the case was closed as unsolved. Thirty-five years later, a woman dies in the Parliamentary Library in what appears to be an accident, yet an unexpected figure suggests a connection between the two deaths: the victims smell wrong.

When we last saw Charlie, he was leaving the pub "No. 7" in the twilight of Gothenburg. Now he appears in the capital, stepping uninvited into detective Jenny Gillberg's investigation.
