A hint of amber

On New Year's Eve 1989, a man was found murdered in an apartment in Stockholm, but the case was closed as unsolved. Thirty-five years later, a woman dies in the Parliamentary Library in what appears to be an accident, yet an unexpected figure suggests a connection between the two deaths: the victims smell wrong.

When we last saw Charlie, he was leaving the pub "No. 7" in the twilight of Gothenburg. Now he appears in the capital, stepping uninvited into detective Jenny Gillberg's investigation. With his uncanny ability to challenge authority, he's quite out of place in high society, but exactly the right person for a murder case.

"A crime novel that refuses to be confined by genre conventions. With humor, sharpness, and great storytelling joy, the author creates an original and believable story that lingers long after the last page."

What do the pros say?

An intelligent and original crime novel that successfully combines credible police work with humor, politics, and reflections on contemporary issues. With great storytelling skill and wit, Lars crafts a story that invites readers to laugh, think, and keep reading. A book that entertains without being superficial and stays with you afterward.

The blend of fact and fiction also means readers can never be sure where the line lies, creating a unique kind of suspense. Readers will question much of what Charlie reveals in his diary entries, and I guarantee many will Google to find out what's true and what's made up.
